A More Flashy Guitar Hero

17 November, 2007 – 4:16 pm

Guitar Hero is great, but sometimes the action is not enough for some people. For some people, you need all three - lights, camera and action!

With custom molded semi-transparent plastic buttons, some cheap light emitting diodes and incredible patience, these guys have modded their guitar into a flashing masterpiece. Check out the video above.

Get The Game

Guitar Hero is one of those series that has been going for years. If you are in to gaming in any sense, you already know about it. However, if you're a new gamer, or a hermit to the video game console world, this game is a must.

Windows Vista getting better?

16 November, 2007 – 9:07 pm

Vista Ultimate Cover

Windows Vista had much criticism since its release for many reasons, including its lack of the originally planned feature set and various annoyances such as User Access Control (UAC) and hardware incompatibilities.

Service Pack 1

To fix some of these problems, including some of the major slowdowns during operations such as file transfer, Microsoft will be releasing Windows Vista Service Pack 1 within a few months. The release candidate is now available for Microsoft testers.

A whitepaper published by Microsoft near the end of August 2007 outlined the scope and intent of the service pack, identifying three major areas of improvement: reliability and performance, administration experience, and support for newer hardware and standards.

One area of particular note is performance. Areas of improvement include file copy operations, hibernation, logging off on domain-joined machines, Javascript parsing in Internet Explorer, network file share browsing, Windows Explorer ZIP file handling and Windows Disk Defragmenter. The ability to choose individual drives to defragment is being reintroduced as well.

So, will Vista be going the dreaded way of Windows ME or will it succeed as Microsoft hope?

SNES Controller Returns

16 November, 2007 – 7:51 pm

Next April, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System controller, pictured below, returns to bring joy to all retro gamers.

SNES Controller

Okay. So I lied ever so slightly. Nintendo are not going to fully re-release the good old controller. Instead though it will be available (in April) to Japanese gamers in exchange for a yet to be revealed amount of Club Nintendo Points. This version of the controller however will not be for the system it was originally designed for... dur. Instead this version will be released specifically designed for connection the Nintendo Wii.

Quite nice, eh?

Live in retro-land...

If you don't happen to live in Japan, or aren't lucky enough to have all the Club Points you need, maybe you should buy a standard SNES controller. There are plenty of SNES to Wii connection adapters available, so it's make-your-own time!

miShare - Transfer your Tunes without iTunes

15 November, 2007 – 10:56 pm

We've all heard of this kind of device before, but not for iPods. Apparently the miShare is the first to do this well.

miShare Music Transferring Device

The miShare is a device which sits between two iPods and allows for easy file transfer. It connects via the bottom docking connectors on the iPods. How you select which files get transferred and which don't is unknown, but will probably find out closer to release. Apple probably won't like this though based on their one-library-per-iPod restrictions.

According to Nathaniel Wice, the device runs a stripped down Linux distribution and uses easily available open-source tools to access the iPod's library files. The miShare can transfer music, pictures and video. When in music mode the miShare will automatically transfer the most recently played song or songs, depending on how it is set.

Until release...
